About the position

The Senior Paralegal position at OnPoint is a vital role within the Legal Department, supporting the legal work of attorneys and ensuring that legal matters are handled efficiently and effectively. This position requires a proactive approach to resolving inquiries from various business units and involves close collaboration with these teams to bring legal matters to resolution. The Legal Department is responsible for managing legal risks, advising on products and services, interpreting applicable laws and regulations, and providing guidance on a range of legal issues pertinent to the Credit Union. As a Senior Paralegal, you will play a key role in facilitating communication between the legal team and business units, ensuring that legal processes are understood and adhered to throughout the organization. In this role, you will be expected to understand and provide guidance on complex matters related to account ownership and management, including guardianships, conservatorships, and powers of attorney. You will assist with managing records requests and subpoenas, develop and oversee legal knowledge management initiatives, and coordinate with outside counsel while tracking legal invoices. Your responsibilities will also include supporting front-line operations by directly engaging with business units and third parties, participating in meetings alongside attorneys, and managing contract reviews and governance materials. The Senior Paralegal will interpret and implement relevant policies and procedures, ensuring compliance and clarity in legal matters across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and provide guidance to business teams on matters that affect account ownership and management, including guardianships, conservatorships, letters testamentary, small estate affidavits, powers of attorney, material terminations, and trusts.
  • Assist with records requests, subpoenas, and other legal process management and response.
  • Develop and oversee legal knowledge management initiatives, including maintaining a database of legal documents, regulatory and legal research, and other matters.
  • Coordinate with outside counsel and track legal invoices.
  • Support front-line and operations by working directly with business units or third parties, including participating with attorneys in meetings, and answering telephone calls and emails directly from business units or third parties.
  • Assist with contract management using Legal Department software.
  • Review contracts.
  • Assist with board and other governance materials.
  • Interpret and implement applicable policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or Associates Paralegal Certificate required.
  • 4-6 years Paralegal (or comparable) experience at a financial services company or law firm with financial services practice.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Detail-oriented with strong work ethic.
  • Ability to identify pertinent information and create documents that present relevant information clearly and succinctly.
  • Ability to work with MS Office Suite, Lexis, and Westlaw products.
  • Ability to collaborate and develop effective relationships across the organization.
