About the position

The Legal team at Novelis, located in Atlanta, Georgia, is seeking a Senior Paralegal to join their ranks. This position is pivotal in supporting the Global Contracts Management team, ensuring that commercial contracts are handled systematically and efficiently. The Senior Paralegal will report directly to the Head of Legal Operations and the Global Contracts Management Center of Excellence Lead. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in improving operational performance by managing contract administration, legal technology, and project management effectively. In this role, the Senior Paralegal will work independently to prepare contracts from standardized templates and evaluate third-party contracts against established playbooks. They will also be responsible for editing and contributing to the negotiations of various contracts, including Non-Disclosure Agreements, Master Services Agreements, and procurement agreements. A significant part of the job involves partnering with the Global Procurement function to serve as a front-line resource for contract preparation, review, and analysis. The Senior Paralegal will implement and maintain a contracts management database system, ensuring accurate reporting and insight into contract terms and obligations. They will conduct periodic audits of the legal department's contracts database to maintain data integrity. Additionally, the role includes acting as a key resource for the implementation and management of contract lifecycle management (CLM) software and related legal technology solutions. The Senior Paralegal will also collaborate with attorneys to develop and coordinate contract compliance strategies and training materials, ensuring that all team members are well-equipped to handle commercial contracting matters. This position requires strong organizational skills, the ability to establish project timelines, and the capability to coordinate with various departments to optimize processes and achieve business priorities. The Senior Paralegal will also assist business leaders with vendor and customer relationship issues, providing practical solutions while exercising sound judgment. Overall, this role is integral to the legal operations strategic priorities at Novelis, including e-billing processes, legal technology solutions, and reporting and analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Global Contracts Management team in contract administration, legal technology, and project management.
  • Work independently to handle and prepare contracts from standardized templates and evaluate third-party contracts against playbooks; recommend contract template management standard methodologies.
  • Edit and contribute to the negotiations of contracts, including Non-Disclosure Agreements, Master Services Agreements, Statements of Work, and other procurement and supply agreements.
  • Partner with the Global Procurement function as a front-line resource for contract preparation, review, and analysis.
  • Implement, maintain, and coordinate a contracts management database system to support reporting and insight into contract terms, contract status, and contract obligations.
  • Conduct periodic audits of the legal department's contracts database to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Act as a key resource for implementation and management of contract lifecycle management (CLM) software and related legal technology solutions.
  • Serve as the post-launch resource for contract management technology, including contract lifecycle management software, e-signature solutions, artificial intelligence drafting tools, and contract reporting.
  • Partner with attorneys to develop, implement, and coordinate contract compliance strategies, global standard methodologies, templates, tools, playbooks, guidelines, and trainings for commercial contracting matters.
  • Establish project timelines, coordinate committee meeting calendars, track completion of tasks, connect with collaborators as necessary to provide updates, produce status reports, compile monthly and quarterly reports from internal databases.
  • Prepare training materials and prioritize global training calendar; coordinate with DOA champions across international regions on delivery of training; respond to requests for focused training; track and prepare reports on training completion; deliver training.
  • Work with cross-functional departments to optimize processes, improve collaborator service, and achieve business priorities.
  • Assist business leaders with issues arising from vendor and customer relationships and provide practical business-oriented solutions, while using judgment to advance as necessary.
  • Support various legal operations strategic priorities, including the department's e-billing process, legal technology solutions, process optimization, and reporting and analytics.
  • Prepare budget requests for contracts management activities, arrange and handle travel for attorneys, prepare expense reports and related documentation.
  • Support other members of the corporate legal team on administrative tasks and special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent years of related experience)
  • Minimum of 5 years' experience as contracts administrator in a law firm or in-house
  • Experience preparing and analyzing contracts
  • Familiarity with Contracts Technology/Software (CLM preferred)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
