About the position

The Senior Paralegal position at the Office of Corporation Counsel (OCC) involves providing legal support services to attorneys within the counseling division. This role requires a high level of independent judgment and organizational skills, as senior paralegals are expected to manage multiple tasks and assist in various legal matters, including contracts, public records requests, and discrimination complaints. The position also includes supervising junior paralegals and ensuring compliance with legal standards while promoting a collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Providing administrative support for counseling attorneys, including communication with client agencies, gathering information, and file management.
  • Assisting with public records requests, including gathering and redacting documents.
  • Reviewing, editing, and proofreading contracts.
  • Interviewing residents filing discrimination complaints and performing related follow-up.
  • Scheduling meetings, taking minutes, and assisting with other Board functions.
  • Assisting with the unemployment compensation process.
  • Staffing the reception desk, answering and forwarding calls, greeting visitors, and accepting deliveries.

Requirements

  • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree.
  • At least three (3) years' working experience with appropriate references.
  • Prior professional experience working as a paralegal or in a legal support staff capacity.
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of platforms.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior professional experience as a paralegal.
  • Status as an Indiana Registered Paralegal (IRP) through the Indiana Bar Association, or similar certification or specialized training in paralegal work.
