About the position

The Senior Patient Access Representative at UTHealth Houston's Neurosciences department plays a crucial role in ensuring efficient patient registration and access to healthcare services. This position involves mentoring team members, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance eligibility, and maintaining compliance with medical necessity requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills and may be bilingual in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules patient appointments and enters required information in the computer system accurately and timely.
  • Obtains demographic, insurance, and financial information from patients or guarantors and enters it into the system with high accuracy.
  • Explains required forms to patients or guarantors and obtains necessary signatures.
  • Ensures medical necessity compliance by obtaining necessary data and communicating information to patients or guarantors.
  • Protects the financial integrity of the facility by collecting patient liability and establishing payment arrangements.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and benefits, ensuring notifications and authorizations are completed on time.
  • Posts payments in the system and generates appropriate patient receipts.
  • Monitors, reviews, and resolves patient account issues on assigned reports.
  • Completes quality reviews and monitors for process improvement opportunities.
  • Functions as a team leader by ensuring daily processes are complete and assisting in employee training.
  • Communicates effectively with physicians, care management, and patients, ensuring thorough documentation.
  • Promotes professional growth by meeting continuing education requirements and serving as a mentor to less experienced staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Four years of experience in a hospital or medical business office setting.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Proficient typing/keyboarding skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
