About the position

The Senior Patients Rights Advocate position within the Kern County Behavioral Health & Recovery Services Department is a promotional role aimed at experienced employees. The advocate will be responsible for ensuring the rights of patients in behavioral health settings are upheld, providing guidance and support to patients and their families, and advocating for necessary services and resources. This role requires a strong background in public interest law or behavioral health services, along with significant experience in patient advocacy.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the rights of patients in behavioral health settings are upheld.
  • Provide guidance and support to patients and their families.
  • Advocate for necessary services and resources for patients.
  • Conduct investigations and evaluations related to patient rights.
  • Participate in training and educational programs for staff and stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate from an accredited school of law and one year of full-time paid experience in Public Interest Law and five years of experience as a behavioral health Patients' Rights Advocate.
  • Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, or related field and two years of experience in a behavioral health or social service setting and five years of experience as a behavioral health Patients' Rights Advocate.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Sociology or related field and four years of experience in a behavioral health or social service setting and five years of experience as a behavioral health Patients' Rights Advocate.
  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Driver's License.
