About the position

The Senior Payroll Accounting Clerk at Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Newark plays a crucial role in the Finance Department, overseeing the financial activities of a major not-for-profit social service organization. This position involves a comprehensive analytical review of general ledger accounts and the preparation of financial statements, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, conducting audits, and providing insights into financial performance to support the organization's mission of serving the poor and marginalized. The role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles and the ability to work collaboratively with other departments to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting. Additionally, the Senior Accountant will be expected to adapt quickly to the Agency's financial systems and contribute to the overall efficiency of the finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analytical reviews of general ledger accounts.
  • Prepare financial statements in accordance with corporate policies and GAAP.
  • Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
  • Assist in audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
  • Collaborate with other departments to support financial reporting needs.
  • Utilize Microsoft Office applications and the Agency's financial system for reporting and analysis.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or a related field.
  • 1-3 years of experience in a professional accounting, business management, and/or auditing setting.
  • Excellent knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Windows, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Access.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and use the Agency's financial data system.
