About the position

The Senior Payroll Manager will oversee and direct payroll procedures within a $1B government contracting company located in Tyson's Corner, VA. This hybrid opportunity offers a competitive salary range of $150K - $175K. The primary responsibility of the Senior Payroll Manager is to ensure compliance with relevant laws and tax obligations while supervising the payroll team and maintaining accurate payroll records. This role is critical in developing systems to process payroll transactions efficiently and effectively, coordinating timekeeping systems, overseeing payroll changes and system upgrades, and ensuring compliance with both laws and internal policies. In addition to these responsibilities, the Senior Payroll Manager will supervise and coach payroll staff, liaise with auditors for payroll tax audits, and collaborate closely with HR and accounting teams. Maintaining accurate records and resolving payroll-related issues will also be key components of this position. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in payroll administration, particularly within the federal government contracting sector, and will be adept at managing large payrolls, specifically those involving 5000 employees or more. The role requires a proactive approach to payroll management, including the ability to transition payroll systems and processes from existing platforms to new ones. The Senior Payroll Manager will also be responsible for implementing payroll software and ensuring that all payroll operations run smoothly and efficiently. This position is essential for maintaining the integrity of payroll processes and ensuring that all employees are compensated accurately and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and direct payroll procedures within the company.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws and tax obligations.
  • Supervise and coach payroll staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of payroll experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Federal government contracting experience required.
  • Experience with Deltek Costpoint; Oracle experience is a plus.
  • Preferred experience with Oracle Fusion Cloud payroll.
  • Payroll certifications preferred.
  • Experience transitioning payroll systems and processes to new platforms.
  • Experience with payroll software implementation.
  • Experience managing large payrolls of 5000 employees or more.
  • Experience with payroll tax and payroll closeout processes.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of outsourced payroll components such as tax and garnishments.
  • Knowledge of enterprise-wide payroll systems, including configuration.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in planning and resource allocation.
  • Knowledge of state and federal payroll and tax laws.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft 365.
