About the position

The Senior Payroll Manager at ACT is responsible for overseeing payroll operations, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and implementing best practices to optimize efficiency. This role is crucial in maintaining accurate and timely payroll for over 700 employees across multiple states, driving process improvements, and collaborating with various teams to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of payroll processing, including bi-weekly payroll for 700+ employees across almost all US states.
  • Oversee tax reporting for federal, state, and local jurisdictions to ensure compliance with regulations and filing requirements.
  • Responsible for new payroll state registrations and closing states where there are no longer employees.
  • Collaborate with the Talent Strategy team to ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll submissions.
  • Conduct reviews and audits of payroll processes to identify gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain and configure payroll and timekeeping systems; lead payroll projects and initiatives.
  • Support the 401(k) administrative function and partner with the Talent Strategy team on annual audits.
  • Provide payroll and compensation reporting as needed; support ad hoc projects as assigned.
  • Support accounting with payroll-related matters, including reconciliations and journal entries.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of payroll experience.
  • Experience with complex multi-state payrolls.
  • Experience processing payrolls through Dayforce HCM.
  • Demonstrated success in leading, managing, and building teams.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll tax requirements and relevant laws.
  • Advanced computer skills on MS Office and payroll systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritize responsibilities and manage time-sensitive deadlines.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding corporate information.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or a combination of experience and education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional certification in payroll management, such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP).
