About the position

The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for ensuring data accuracy in payroll processing for multiple companies under the Radius Recycling umbrella. This role emphasizes proficiency in communication, timeliness, and fostering positive inter-department relationships while promoting process enhancements and best practices in a team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process both weekly and bi-weekly payroll through UKG.
  • Retrieve timeclock data through Kronos and validate for general accuracy.
  • Review and audit the payroll in detail to ensure accuracy prior to transmission and provide reports and data as needed post-transmission.
  • Process manual checks as needed based on state wage and hour regulations.
  • Gain familiarity and understanding of union contracts as they relate to payroll functions.
  • Have solid knowledge of US regulations on pay policies.
  • Review and take the appropriate action for employee changes (new hires, terminations, rate changes, status changes, etc.).
  • Research and resolve payroll related issues with excellent customer service.
  • Consult with Payroll Supervisor or Payroll Manager on compliance and escalate issues as they arise.
  • Work closely with the HR Business Partners and field supervisors on resolving payroll related issues.
  • Keep informed of changes in tax and deduction laws that apply to the payroll processes.
  • Prioritize a high-volume workload efficiently and be able to meet payroll transmission deadlines.
  • Intermediate skills with MS Products, such as Excel, Word, etc.
  • Assist in special projects as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of payroll processing experience preferably with a population of 300+.
  • Multi-State payroll experience, national preferred but not required.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience processing payroll with a large payroll provider; UKG experience preferred but not required.
  • Canadian payroll processing preferred but not required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly with team members, management, employees and external individuals and agencies in an efficient and effective manner.
  • Strong work ethic, demonstrating integrity and trust as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • The flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Canadian payroll processing.
