The Senior Payroll Specialist at DHL Group plays a crucial role in managing payroll functions for a diverse workforce across multiple states. This position is designed for an individual who can lead a team of payroll specialists, ensuring that payroll processes are executed efficiently and in compliance with established policies. The Senior Payroll Specialist will be responsible for overseeing multiple work queues, assigning tasks to team members, and ensuring that all work is completed within the specified service level agreements (SLAs). This role requires a deep understanding of payroll operations, as well as the ability to respond to escalations from both specialists and employees, providing timely resolutions and effective communication. In addition to managing day-to-day payroll activities, the Senior Payroll Specialist will also be tasked with identifying opportunities for process improvements and risk mitigation. This involves collaborating with other team leads and managers within HR and Payroll Operations to provide comprehensive operational guidance. The role includes training responsibilities, where the Senior Payroll Specialist will conduct training sessions for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge in payroll processing. The position requires a strong analytical mindset, as the Senior Payroll Specialist will need to research business problems, identify trends, and escalate issues to management when necessary. The individual will also be responsible for inputting data into computerized payroll systems, preparing weekly and biweekly payroll, and ensuring that all payroll deductions and adjustments are accurately processed. This role is pivotal in maintaining the integrity of payroll data and ensuring that employees are compensated accurately and on time.

Responsibilities

  • Manages multiple work queues and schedules ensuring that work is assigned to team members appropriately and managed within stated SLAs.
  • Manages and responds to Specialist and employee escalations, ensuring compliance with payroll policies and procedures.
  • Provides backup support to the team as needed to meet SLA requirements.
  • Provides recommendations and solutions for process improvements; identifies opportunities to mitigate risk and provides value-added solutions to meet business needs.
  • Partners with other team leads and managers in HR and PR Operations to provide end-to-end operational guidance and support.
  • Responsible for day-to-day training activities pertaining to assigned functional unit.
  • Works with internal and external 3rd party vendors to triage and resolve escalated issues from specialists.
  • Researches business problems; identifies trends and escalates to manager for guidance.
  • Captures and reports on operational metrics; escalates issues to Manager in a timely manner.
  • Inputs data to computerized payroll systems to prepare weekly and biweekly payroll, including updating and adjusting employee master file records upon notice of changes to deductions or status.
  • Completes payroll processing activities, such as computing wage and overtime payments, calculating and recording payroll deductions, and processing requests for off-cycle payments.

Requirements

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) preferred
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
  • 3+ years of payroll experience, including expertise in a multi-state payroll environment
  • Extensive US payroll experience and expertise
  • Exposure and knowledge of complex HR processes that impact payroll
  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • Knowledge of ADP Vantage and Kronos Timekeeping, or similar time and attendance and payroll applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills as problems faced are often complex and require extensive investigation and analysis
  • Strong communication skills (oral & written); ability to effectively interact with others at all levels
  • Bilingual (Spanish speaking), preferred
