About the position

Sumitomo Pharma America (SMPA) is seeking a dynamic, highly motivated, and experienced individual for the position of Senior Payroll Specialist. This role is crucial in contributing to the shared processing of the full payroll cycle for SMPA, as well as payroll-related accounting processing. The Senior Payroll Specialist will ensure that payroll is processed timely and accurately, which is vital for the smooth operation of the company. This position reports to the Senior Director of Payroll Operations and will involve close collaboration with other members of the Payroll team, Accounting, HR, and various other groups across the company. In this role, the Senior Payroll Specialist will manage workflow to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations for bi-weekly payroll. The individual will also contribute to managing, reporting, and processing the time reporting system, assist in processing off-cycle bonus payrolls, and serve as a point of contact for employees with payroll-related questions. Compliance with all job-related company policies and procedures is essential, and the specialist will assist functional teams during implementations while contributing to process improvements both in the short and long term. Providing timely and excellent customer service to all employees is a key expectation of this role. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, have a strong understanding of the full payroll cycle, and demonstrate attention to detail, organization, and analytical skills. Strong problem-solving skills are necessary, along with the ability to maintain confidentiality of all Payroll and HR-related records. The candidate should be capable of managing a busy payroll mailbox and working independently as well as part of a team. A commitment to professional development and training to keep up with industry trends and current laws is also important, as is the ability to act as a mentor and train other payroll associates.

Responsibilities

  • Manage workflow to ensure accurate and timely processing of new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations for bi-weekly payroll.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of multi-state payroll experience in a high-volume environment.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Understanding of appropriate tax jurisdiction based on work and resident state.
  • Experience with ADP is a must, preferably ADP Vantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications.
