About the position

The Senior Payroll Specialist at Just Energy is responsible for ensuring the accurate processing and recording of payroll for the company, impacting both the US and Canada operations. This role involves managing payroll tax compliance, resolving discrepancies, and providing timely financial information, while also offering opportunities for career development within a growing organization.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure US and Canada payroll (as assigned) are processed accurately and timely.
  • Balancing and controlling earnings and deduction totals.
  • Inspecting automated system output such as registers and standard reports, determining and correcting out-of-balance conditions.
  • Research and resolve payroll tax variances on a pay period basis.
  • Responsible for keeping abreast of existing and upcoming regulations in all areas of payroll tax compliance.
  • Researching and preparing special reports for management.
  • Processing VOE's, garnishments and levies.
  • Perform uploading of Import files.
  • Process manual checks and relocation metrics.
  • Reconcile payroll prior to transmission and validate confirmed reports.
  • Reconcile payroll accounts when assigned.
  • Administer payroll element set-up in system.
  • Ensure miscellaneous deductions are recorded and processed.
  • Provide support and guidance for responding to inquiries and special requests from employees and agencies.
  • Research laws and regulations regarding taxes and payroll withholding procedures.
  • Respond employee inquiries and government agencies.
  • Ensures thorough payroll testing for system upgrades or enhancements as needed.
  • Research, correct, and distribute W-2Cs and T-4s.
  • Assist with the Quarterly reconciliation of W-2 and T-4 files.
  • Assist on various annual audits such as Worker's comp, 401K.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to produce and reconcile advance general ledgers.
  • Experience with multi-state payroll.
  • Demonstrated track record of process improvements and cost savings.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Naturally inquisitive personality, while being highly analytical and methodical in approach, with high attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a self-managed manner, with exceptional organizational, prioritization, and time management ability in order to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Service-oriented mindset, with a 'roll up your sleeves' work ethic and commitment to deliver exceptional results.
  • Highly proficient in MS Office and advanced in Excel.
  • Experience with Oracle Cloud, ADP, and ADP Streamline is a plus.
