About the position

Robert Half is seeking a Senior Payroll Specialist on behalf of our client in Silver Spring, MD. In this role, you will be primarily responsible for processing bi-weekly payroll for both U.S. and Canada employees, analyzing and verifying data exports, and conducting account reconciliations related to payroll. You'll also play a crucial role in troubleshooting and correcting data errors within our payroll system. This position requires a strong understanding of payroll processes and systems, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholders to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing. As a Senior Payroll Specialist, you will analyze and verify the accuracy of data exports from Workday, process bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll for U.S. and Canadian employees, and maintain and update payroll records regularly. You will handle manual entry of submitted time from the time system, prepare and post semi-monthly payroll journal entries, and conduct account reconciliations related to payroll. Additionally, you will respond to inquiries and requests from the payroll mailbox within a reasonable timeframe, register and set up new state tax jurisdictions, and ensure compliance with payroll regulations. Your role will also involve detecting and correcting data errors in collaboration with the HRIS manager, conducting data report generation for key stakeholders upon request, calculating and reconciling all retroactive and proactive amounts, reviewing the Payroll Interface for errors, and performing reconciliations for payroll accounts and benefits related to year-end W2 processing. You will assist with requests related to payroll audits, ensuring that all payroll processes are compliant and efficient.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in full cycle processing of Payroll for at least 500+ employees
  • Experience with Workday, SAP, and Web-based ADP or Ceridian Dayforce
  • Knowledge of how to create journal entries
  • Analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, specifically Word and Excel
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Effectively communicates across all levels of the organization
  • Experience in reporting on and presenting information
  • Flexible and adaptable
  • Demonstrates organizational skills and effective time-management
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team player
