About the position

The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing all payroll processing services at Delta, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as adherence to company policies and collective bargaining agreements. This role involves a variety of payroll functions, including timekeeping, payroll account analysis, and customer service, while working in a hybrid model from the Oakland, CA office.

Responsibilities

  • Balances payroll on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Balances and transmits files to third party vendors.
  • Performs bi-weekly payroll for management and hourly staff, including cost analysis and balancing of pay funding for each payroll reported to finance.
  • Analyzes all payroll bank accounts and payroll GL accounts, resolving variances.
  • Calculates third party payments to coordinate sick and vacation accruals for employees on FMLA/FCLA continuous leaves of absence.
  • Performs system data maintenance and control, including updates to system earnings, tax, and deduction tables as per legal mandates.
  • Conducts compliance functions within accounting standards and audit control, collaborating with internal and external auditors.
  • Responds to inquiries, resolves pay issues, and answers employee and management questions.
  • Manages the internal payroll system, Kronos, and timekeeping database for new hires and terminations.
  • Processes garnishments and mailing payments bi-weekly; manages monthly reporting of union dues and payments.
  • Supports union activities, including managing new union employees' eligibility for holiday pay.
  • Reconciles costing to disburse monthly checks to the union for dues and drives.
  • Assists with year-end reporting, including W2 statements.
  • Performs backup responsibilities to the payroll analyst.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in payroll processing.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience using robust software systems such as Oracle, PeopleSoft, and SAP.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll/tax regulations.
  • Strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and payroll policies & procedures.
  • Organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle HRMS/Cloud.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of Delta policies and procedures.
