About the position

The Senior PC Application Developer position at the Department of Innovation and Technology (DoIT) involves performing specialized professional work in Application Services, primarily supporting the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDoR). The role requires collaboration with a team of developers to analyze user needs, coordinate complex projects, and oversee the development and maintenance of application systems. This position is integral to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of IT services within the state government.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a Senior PC Application Developer for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT), supporting the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDoR).
  • Act as a liaison with the user community for changes and enhancements to application systems.
  • Coordinate full-range major/complex projects including large hardware/software deployments and installations.
  • Provide primary support for scheduled and remedial maintenance of assigned applications.
  • Analyze and recommend new procedures and techniques to improve supported application systems.
  • Stay updated on new developments in the Information Technology (IT) field.

Requirements

  • Knowledge equivalent to four (4) years of college with coursework in computer science or related fields.
  • Three (3) years of professional experience in Application Services or a related IT field.
  • Three (3) years of professional Application Development experience using systems analysis and design, relational databases (DB2, Microsoft Access, or Microsoft SQL Server).
  • Three (3) years of experience designing and implementing maintainable software applications using Object Oriented design principles and languages such as VB.NET, Visual Basic, Java, or other .NET programming languages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of conducting feasibility studies for system conversions and enhancements.
  • Ability to analyze data logically and exercise sound judgment in evaluating operational or procedural problems.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with associates, vendors, clients, and others.
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills to present technical information clearly.
