As a member of the Spark Ignited Gas Engine Performance team within LPSD, the successful candidate will be working in a fast-paced environment to develop a Caterpillar engine system for use in applications such as Electric Power, Gas Compression, Marine, Petroleum, and other Spark Ignited applications. The engineer will be responsible for ensuring that the engine system meets program requirements with respect to performance and controls, emissions, and software. They will be required to use simulation, analysis, and engineering judgment to meet program deliverables. The role involves solving challenging engineering problems involving products, systems, and components using advanced simulation techniques and analysis. The engineer will collaborate with customers and leadership to scope and execute projects that meet the needs of the business. They will be accountable for delivering timely, high-quality simulation and analysis impacting products/processes and providing clear recommendations to stakeholders. Additionally, the engineer will partner with design, manufacturing, supply chain, and test teams to robustly deliver new products and improve validation processes. Keeping up-to-date on new technologies and driving continuous improvement to established techniques is also a key aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers and leadership to scope and execute projects that meet the needs of the business
  • Accountable for delivering timely, high-quality simulation and analysis impacting products/processes and providing clear recommendations to stakeholders
  • Partner with design, manufacturing, supply chain and test to robustly deliver new products and improve validation processes
  • Keep up-to-date on new technologies and drive continuous improvement to established techniques
  • Develop engine performance requirements
  • Conduct engine performance calibration, mapping, and validation
  • Report at Design reviews, Gateway/Stakeholder reviews, and TRL reviews
  • Provide field follow support
  • Engage in engine system physical modeling
  • Perform engine system behavioral simulation and analysis
  • Generate test plans
  • Conduct engine performance/altitude/transient analysis

Requirements

  • Degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum
  • Experience in performance development of natural gas, dual fuel, or diesel engines
  • Experience in the simulation/modeling/analysis of natural gas, dual fuel, or diesel engine systems and/or sub-systems
  • Strong understanding of spark ignited combustion and system interactions
  • Ability to work as part of a team and coordinate with various experts in a fast-paced development and validation environment
