About the position

The Senior Permitting Biologist role at DNV GL focuses on supporting the development and permitting of renewable energy projects across North America. This position is integral to ensuring that projects such as onshore and offshore wind, solar, energy storage, and hydrogen are permitted in compliance with environmental regulations. The role involves collaboration with a diverse team to provide biological and permitting services, contributing to the sustainable growth of the renewable energy sector.

Responsibilities

  • Support renewable energy project site selection and characterization studies in North America and globally.
  • Prepare regulatory documents such as permit applications and environmental reporting documentation including critical issues analyses, Bird and Bat Conservation Strategies, Eagle Conservation Plans, and Habitat Conservation Plans.
  • Provide support for technical due diligence reviews of environmental permits for project financing and M&A activities.
  • Organize consulting activities with different stakeholder groups, including federal and state regulatory agencies, local communities, and Tribes or First Nations.
  • Maintain sustainable relationships and good communication with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist in business development activities including preparing proposals for each client/project and attending client meetings to support further service offering expansion.
  • Participate in thought leadership activities to organize publications, presentations, and other knowledge-sharing activities related to the renewable industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental permitting and biological assessments for renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations related to renewable energy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Master's or PhD).
  • Experience with NEPA documentation and permitting processes.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies and their environmental impacts.
  • Project management experience.
