About the position

The Senior Renewable Energy Project Permitting Biologist at DNV plays a crucial role in supporting the development and permitting of renewable energy projects across North America. This position involves collaborating with a diverse team to ensure that projects are safely and sustainably sited, permitted, and operated, contributing to the company's mission of advancing renewable energy and addressing climate change. The role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, including preparing regulatory documents, conducting environmental impact studies, and engaging with stakeholders to facilitate project success.

Responsibilities

  • Support renewable energy project site selection and characterization studies in North America and globally.
  • Prepare regulatory documents such as permit applications and environmental reporting documentation including critical issues analyses, Bird and Bat Conservation Strategies, Eagle Conservation Plans, and Habitat Conservation Plans.
  • Provide support for technical due diligence reviews of environmental permits for project financing and M&A activities.
  • Organize consulting activities with different stakeholder groups, including federal and state regulatory agencies, local communities, and Tribes or First Nations.
  • Maintain sustainable relationships and good communication with clients, vendors, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist in business development activities including preparing proposals for each client/project and maintaining strong client relationships.
  • Participate in DNV's thought leadership activities to organize publications, presentations, and other knowledge-sharing activities related to the renewable industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in biology, environmental science, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental permitting and biological services for renewable energy projects.
  • Strong understanding of federal, state, and local permitting processes for renewable energy projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience with offshore wind projects.
  • Knowledge of NEPA and other environmental regulations.
  • Familiarity with avian and bat conservation strategies.
