About the position

The Senior Pharmacy Technician plays a crucial role in supporting pharmacists in the daily operations of the pharmacy, both in inpatient and retail settings. This position involves advanced responsibilities such as compounding, quality assurance, and training new pharmacy technicians, ensuring efficient workflow and compliance with regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Pharmacist in the daily operation of the Pharmacy under supervision.
  • For inpatient areas, may be trained in intravenous and/or hazardous drug compounding and regularly staffed as an IV admixture or chemotherapy admixture pharmacy technician.
  • Assist Pharmacy Leadership with quality assurance projects, controlled substance monitoring, and regulatory compliance monitoring and auditing.
  • Serve as a designated trainer for new pharmacy technicians.
  • In retail areas, provide expert-level support to pharmacists, performing specialized tasks that require advanced certification.
  • Manage higher-level responsibilities including advanced technical procedures and ensuring workflow efficiency within the pharmacy.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • State Pharmacy Technician License/Registration required.
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) credential required, may be waived for current pharmacy students enrolled in an accredited School of Pharmacy.
  • At least 4 years of pharmacy technician experience in the current practice area (inpatient or retail) preferred.
  • Additional certifications in relevant areas of practice through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred.
  • Graduate of ASHP-accredited or equivalent pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • 340B program experience preferred (if at a 340B facility).

Nice-to-haves

  • Additional certifications in relevant areas of practice through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) preferred (i.e., CSPT, Nonsterile Compounding, Supply Chain, Immunizations, and Inventory Management, etc.)
  • Graduate of ASHP-accredited or equivalent pharmacy technician training program preferred.
  • 340B program experience preferred (if at a 340B facility).
