About the position

The Senior Pharmacy Technician at Walgreens plays a crucial role in assisting pharmacists with pharmacy operations while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. This position involves engaging with customers to enhance their experience, managing pharmacy systems, and supporting the pharmacy team in various operational tasks. The technician is responsible for processing prescriptions, maintaining inventory, and contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the pharmacy department.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the pharmacist in the practice of pharmacy under direct supervision.
  • Operate pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions.
  • Coach pharmacy technicians and cashiers in the operation of pharmacy systems and cash registers.
  • Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
  • Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
  • Perform duties assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist, and Store Manager.
  • Fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions.
  • Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to company policies regarding pharmacy errors.
  • Register all related sales on assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
  • Process manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely manner.
  • Lead Pharmacy Department inventory management activities, including ordering and storing pharmaceuticals.
  • Assist in administering clinical services and coordinating with healthcare providers.
  • Maintain the Pharmacy Department in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • PTCB certification (except in Puerto Rico).
  • One year of work experience as a pharmacy technician in a retail or hospital setting.
  • Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior work experience with Walgreens.
  • Basic math skills (counting, measuring, and weighing medications).
  • Basic level PC skills (e.g., using a mouse, starting and closing programs).
  • Knowledge of store inventory control.
