About the position

The Senior Physician Assistant provides high-quality, efficient, team-based patient-focused care under the direction of a supervising physician. This role involves managing patients in various settings, including the office, hospital, emergency department, and perioperative environments. The Senior Physician Assistant may assist in surgeries, perform department-specific procedures, and handle on-call responsibilities. This position requires a high level of clinical and operational expertise, with opportunities to mentor less experienced Physician Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Examine patients and perform comprehensive physical examinations, compiling medical data including health history and examination results.
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests and interpret results for deviations from normal.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans, record progress notes, and assist in continuity of care.
  • Instruct and counsel patients on compliance with therapeutic regimens and health maintenance.
  • Facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges as needed.
  • First assist in surgeries or perform procedures as applicable.
  • Round on inpatients and perform admission evaluations, documenting findings and reporting deviations to the attending physician.
  • Provide pre-operative and other pertinent education to patients and families.
  • Assist in performing surgical procedures and manage post-operative care, including entering standard orders and reviewing patient status during recovery.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years previous experience in the last five (5) years as a physician assistant.
  • Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program.
  • Physician Assistant License (California) required.
  • Physician Assistant National Certificate required at hire.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Fluoroscopy Permit required or must be obtained within 18 months from the date of hire in specific departments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Certification in specialty area preferred.
  • At least 1-year of experience in a neurocritical care unit as an advanced practice provider.
