About the position

The Senior Physician Assistant in Neuro Surgery at Kaiser Permanente is responsible for providing high-quality, efficient, team-based patient care under the supervision of a physician. This role involves managing patients in various settings, including the office, hospital, emergency department, and perioperative environments. The Senior Physician Assistant may assist in surgeries, perform specific procedures, and facilitate on-call responsibilities, adapting to the needs of the department and supervising physician. This position requires a high level of clinical expertise and may involve mentoring less experienced Physician Assistants.

Responsibilities

  • Examine patients and perform comprehensive physical examinations.
  • Administer or order diagnostic tests and interpret results.
  • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, and wound care.
  • Develop and implement patient management plans and record progress notes.
  • Instruct and counsel patients on health maintenance and compliance with therapeutic regimens.
  • Facilitate admissions, transfers, and discharges as needed.
  • First assist in surgeries or perform procedures as applicable.
  • Round on inpatients and perform admission evaluations.
  • Provide pre-operative and post-operative education to patients and families.
  • Collaborate with the supervising physician and department members on performance improvement activities.

Requirements

  • Minimum three (3) years previous experience as a physician assistant in the last five (5) years.
  • Graduate from an ARC-PA accredited physician assistant program.
  • Physician Assistant License (California) required.
  • Physician Assistant National Certificate required at hire.
  • National Provider Identifier required at hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification required.
  • Fluoroscopy Permit required or must be obtained within 18 months from hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced Certification in specialty area preferred.
  • At least 1-year of experience in a neurocritical care unit as an advanced practice provider.
