About the position

The Senior Plant Controller at Shape Corp. serves as a key leader on the plant leadership team and acts as the primary financial advisor to plant management. This role is crucial in contributing to all areas of plant management while providing strong financial leadership. The Senior Plant Controller is responsible for planning and coordinating the plant's budget and business planning activities in alignment with corporate policies and practices. This position provides financial direction to the plant and offers recommendations aimed at improving site performance. The role also encompasses managing stockroom and other Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) activities for plant operations. Key responsibilities include conducting spend analysis, material and labor variance analysis, forecasting, KPI management and reporting, asset safeguarding, and evaluating and tracking cost initiatives. Essential job functions include managing all accounting operations for a facility with over 600 team members, which involves overseeing inventory and cost accounting, maintaining standard costs, and managing financial results. The Senior Plant Controller will also manage stockroom operations and attendants, oversee month-end closing processes, and prepare monthly financial statements and operational reports. This role requires analyzing variances and performing trend analysis to communicate findings to management, along with recommended actions and identification of root causes for any discrepancies. The Senior Plant Controller will prepare forecasts for the income statement, balance sheets, and cash flows for the plant, while also overseeing asset safeguarding by managing inventory balances and cycle counts. Collaboration with management to develop and track a database of risks and opportunities is essential. The role involves leading financial and operational budgets, providing monthly updates on results for the full P&L, and working across organizational boundaries to achieve plant, country, or corporate objectives. Additionally, the Senior Plant Controller will integrate and train new staff, share best practices across the global finance team, and provide proactive consultation on complex financial and operational matters to departmental leaders. Monitoring and implementing plant internal controls in accordance with corporate policies is also a critical aspect of this position, ensuring reporting integrity and safeguarding company assets. The Senior Plant Controller must ensure compliance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and local statutory requirements, estimate product costs for quoting activities, and manage the inventory control process in collaboration with the operations team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all accounting operations for a 600+ team member facility.
  • Oversee Inventory/Cost Accounting, standard cost maintenance, and annual cost rolls of Material/Labor/OH, and financial results.
  • Manage stock room operations and stock room attendants.
  • Handle month-end closing and prepare monthly financial statements and operational reports for the site.
  • Analyze variances and perform trend analysis to communicate explanations to management with recommended actions.
  • Determine fixed and variable cost structures and model flex forecasts with business changes.
  • Prepare forecasts of income statement, balance sheets, and statement of cash flows for the Plant.
  • Oversee inventory balances, cycle counts, and support working capital improvement plans.
  • Lead financial and operational budget, providing monthly bridge to results for full P&L.
  • Work across organization boundaries and all levels of the company to achieve objectives.
  • Integrate and train new staff while leading the continued professional development of the existing team.
  • Share best practices across the global finance team, including process improvements and financial modeling.
  • Provide proactive consultation on complex financial and operational matters to departmental leaders.
  • Collaborate with Plant Manager, Division Leader, and senior management to explain results and identify inefficiencies.
  • Monitor and implement plant internal controls to ensure reporting integrity and safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure proper accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP and local statutory requirements.
  • Estimate product costs to support quoting activities.
  • Identify and train backups to manage key tasks when absent.
  • Manage the inventory control process and work closely with the operations team to reduce inventory inaccuracies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in financial management or accounting roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with financial forecasting and budgeting processes.
  • Proficiency in financial analysis and reporting tools, such as OneStream.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various departments.
  • Ability to lead and develop a finance team effectively.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Business Administration or Finance.
  • Experience with ERP systems and inventory management software.
  • Certification as a CPA or CMA is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles.
