About the position

The position involves contributing significantly to a world-class vehicle engineering team at Lucid Motors, focusing on plastics expertise and managing polymer-related aspects from the concept phase to product launch. The role requires collaboration with design engineers and suppliers to optimize part function, efficiency, and cost, while also ensuring the selection and development of appropriate materials for luxury electric vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Support the vehicle engineering team with plastics expertise and manage polymer-related aspects from concept to product launch.
  • Consult with design engineers and suppliers throughout the product development process to optimize part function, efficiency, and cost.
  • Extract material requirements from part specifications and select materials after a holistic evaluation of plastic grades.
  • Utilize knowledge of polymers to troubleshoot parts and processes effectively.
  • Develop and implement test methods and material specifications.
  • Support internal non-engineering teams and represent the Lucid material team in communications with suppliers, including on-site visits.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in selecting and developing plastics and composite materials for Senior Engineer level; 8+ years for Technical Specialist level.
  • Experience in an automotive development environment, ideally through the complete product development process.
  • Good knowledge of injection molded materials and in-mold decoration technology using luxury materials such as synthetic leather, suede, wood, and metal.
  • Proven experience in selecting plastic grades for various applications.
  • Hands-on experience with the plastic injection molding process, including process optimization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience with other plastic manufacturing processes (e.g., blow molding, thermal forming, vacuum forming, over molding, compression molding, slush molding).
  • Experience with secondary processes (e.g., joining, painting, plating, press/vacuum lamination).
  • Experience in developing and implementing test methods and material characterization.
