About the position

The Senior Platform Engineer - Kubernetes at Marriott will lead the deployment and operations of the Kubernetes Platform, serving as a subject matter expert. This role is crucial in transforming technology management at Marriott, focusing on automation, DevOps, and product iteration to enhance innovation and security. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in engineering large-scale platform-as-a-service products and will work collaboratively with a team of engineers to set high standards in technology solutions.

Responsibilities

• Lead and execute deployment, automation, maintenance, and management of cloud infrastructure to ensure security, performance, and availability of production systems.
• Identify, capture, and maintain cloud and automation operational metrics.
• Efficiently code solutions and continuously improve products and solutions for scalability and high availability.
• Automate processes including right sizing, self-service, and real-time spend visibility.
• Review issue logs and metrics to identify trends and implement solutions.
• Maintain documentation of activities and system configurations, and review documentation of junior engineers.
• Proactively troubleshoot, resolve issues, and perform problem analysis.
• Participate in architectural discussions to guide Application Teams in making efficient technology choices.
• Stay updated on industry knowledge and enhance subject matter expertise, identifying trends in technology and automation strategies.
• Assist with interviewing talent and provide peer reviews/feedback to foster a modern engineering culture.

Requirements

• Undergraduate degree in engineering or computer science or equivalent experience/certification.
• 6+ years of technology experience with a blend of deep technical knowledge and a customer-focused mindset.
• 3+ years in an engineering role as a strategic thinker relating technology solutions to customer use cases.
• 3+ years experience with DevOps, CI/CD, GitOps, Agile methodologies.
• 2+ years' experience with Public Cloud technology stacks such as AWS, Azure, GCP, or Alibaba.
• 2+ years' experience with Kubernetes solution design, deployment, management, and orchestration across multi-cloud environments.
• 2+ years' experience driving technical architecture and outcomes with automation through Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, GitOps (Argo), and Helm.
• Ability to design end-to-end architecture supporting 99.99% service availability with performance and cost considerations.

Nice-to-haves

• Proven experience with at least one higher-level programming language: Go, Java, Python, or similar.
• Excellent technical knowledge of current and emerging infrastructure systems and standards.
• Strong knowledge of tools, software, applications, and systems for best-in-class technology platforms.
• Proven ability to create constructive relationships and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical staff.
• Significant experience in the design, implementation, and operational support of mission-critical solutions.
• Experience delivering technology solutions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
