About the position

We are seeking a Senior Underwriter for our Financial Lines / Private Not for Profit Team in the Houston branch office. The PNP Senior Underwriter will be accountable for the growth and profitability of management liability business within the territory. This role involves managing a personal book of business that includes Directors and Officers (D&O) insurance, Employment Practices Liability (EPL), Fiduciary Liability, Crime, Workplace Violence (WPV), and Kidnap and Ransom lines of business. The successful candidate will be responsible for the financial performance of this book, focusing on profit, rate, retention, and growth. The Senior Underwriter will engage in successful market penetration and agency management, which includes building, maintaining, and managing relationships with producers and customers. This involves developing personal agency strategies and goals, with continual monitoring of progress to ensure targets are met. The role also requires identifying cross-sell opportunities within commercial products and services related to the personal book of business. In addition, the Senior Underwriter will be responsible for soliciting, selecting, and analyzing risks within Private Not for Profit (PNP) guidelines, ensuring proper documentation is maintained. They will develop and negotiate pricing, coverage, and terms and conditions for all new business and renewals, while actively identifying account rounding opportunities. The position requires meeting with producers and renewal customers to make sales presentations, which include product education and the rollout of new products. Collaboration is key in this role, as the Senior Underwriter will work closely with underwriters, operations, claims, marketing, and home office product management to consistently meet service standards. They will also be expected to collect and share industry intelligence with the team, including insights on industry trends and developments. Training and development opportunities will be available in Houston, and the ability to take account referrals is also a part of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for the growth and profitability of management liability business within the territory.
  • Manage a personal book of business consisting of D&O, EPL, Fiduciary Liability, Crime, WPV, and Kidnap and Ransom lines of business.
  • Ensure financial performance, including profit, rate, retention, and growth of the personal book of business.
  • Build, maintain, and manage producer and customer relationships for successful market penetration and agency management.
  • Develop personal agency strategy and goals with continual monitoring of progress.
  • Identify cross-sell opportunities within commercial products and services on the personal book of business.
  • Solicit, select, and analyze risk within PNP guidelines and ensure proper documentation.
  • Develop and negotiate price, coverage, and terms and conditions for all new business and renewals.
  • Actively identify account rounding opportunities.
  • Meet with producers and renewal customers to make sales presentations, including product education and new product rollout.
  • Collaborate with underwriters, operations, claims, marketing, and home office product management.
  • Consistently meet service standards.
  • Collect and share industry intelligence with the team, including industry trending and development.
  • Participate in training and development in Houston.
  • Take account referrals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years of experience underwriting Financial Lines.
