About the position

This position is responsible for assisting the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) in developing and implementing investment strategies for Tompkins Financial Advisors (TFA), managing the portfolio management process, and serving as an investment expert for TFA. The role involves managing client investment portfolios, meeting with clients to promote and educate them about investment strategies, and ensuring that client objectives are met through effective portfolio management.

Responsibilities

  • Manage investment strategies, including individual Core Equity and Dividend Income stock portfolios, and TFA, SAP, and ESG strategies.
  • Lead research efforts by sourcing and monitoring investments through qualitative and quantitative research processes and due diligence.
  • Conduct fundamental research, including financial statement analysis, financial modeling, factor-based investing, and valuation.
  • Perform 3rd party manager oversight in mutual funds and ETFs, including manager selection and sourcing of new ideas.
  • Stay updated on current news and events related to global economies and markets, monitoring portfolio holdings.
  • Be a subject matter expert on all asset classes, including global equities and fixed income investments.
  • Encourage diverse and independent thinking among investment committee members to source best ideas.
  • Lead business development activities related to investments, including constructing investment proposals for prospective clients.
  • Make presentations promoting TFA, including investment discussions with prospects, clients, stakeholders, and COIs.
  • Publish white papers for distribution to internal colleagues and external clients, prospects, and COIs.
  • Assist in leading investment committee discussions and serve as backup in the absence of the CIO.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with clients and team members.
  • Manage the investment portfolio management process and participate in formulating investment policy as a member of the Investment Committee.
  • Make trade recommendations for WA's & TO's to be executed by TFA traders.
  • Assist in the preparation of investment proposals and presentations for WA's & TO's.
  • Review, evaluate, and monitor accounts, ensuring adherence to fiduciary quality and departmental guidelines.
  • Provide supervision to portfolio managers, wealth advisors, and trust officers.
  • Assist in developing and executing a business development plan focusing on partnerships with Wealth Advisors and Trust Officers.
  • Implement investment plans, including trade coordination and ongoing rebalancing of client portfolios.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for investment-related questions and maintain regular contact with investor clients.
  • Create and deliver presentations to promote TFA services and educate targeted audiences externally.
  • Participate in creating and maintaining investment marketing materials, including pitchbooks and quarterly market commentary.
  • Act as a proxy for the investment team members, maintaining expert knowledge on investment holdings and processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Business Management or related field, or an Associate's Degree plus two years of work experience.
  • Minimum of ten years' investment management experience covering client relationship management and portfolio development.
  • Proven ability to uncover client personal investment goals and create personalized plans.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; acute attention to detail; exceptional presentation skills.
  • Expert knowledge of investments and trading is required.
  • Customer-focused with a desire to communicate frequently with clients, prospects, and COIs.
  • Solid supervisory skills and ability to make independent decisions.
