About the position
Commonwealth is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to join its Data & Analytics department. This role focuses on leading the development of Power BI semantic models and reports to facilitate data-driven decision-making for business users. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, promoting work/life balance and a collaborative environment where the developer will work closely with business users and IT partners to understand data needs and implement effective solutions.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Data & Analytics team, business users, and IT to understand data needs and governance decisions.
- Profile data by examining structures, identifying anomalies, and analyzing column properties.
- Design and optimize SQL views and stored procedures for data accessibility and reliability.
- Develop and maintain complex semantic models using Power BI.
- Leverage DAX to build complex measures and optimize model performance.
- Build interactive Power BI reports and dashboards for effective data visualization.
- Analyze data to enhance reports and perform advanced analysis.
- Collaborate with database and Power BI service administrators on RLS, OLS, and capacity management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- 5+ years of experience, preferably in the financial services/insurance industry.
- Strong proficiency in data models, databases, data warehouses, and complex data querying.
- Strong proficiency in SQL, Power Query, and DAX.
- Solid understanding of modern data architecture methods, especially cloud-based solutions.
- Experience with Microsoft Azure, Snowflake, and/or Databricks is a plus.
- Strong proficiency in business insights/business intelligence.
- Strong proficiency in data visualization techniques and tools like Looker, Tableau, and Power BI.
- Demonstrated success in cross-functional collaboration to deliver business insights.
- Strong ability to communicate technical and business information to diverse audiences.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with cloud-based data architecture.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools beyond Power BI.
