About the position

SAIC is seeking a Senior Power BI Developer to lead the migration of reporting capabilities from SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and Business Objects to Microsoft Power BI. This role focuses on enhancing analytics capabilities and providing innovative visualization solutions for government clients. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analytics, SQL, and Power BI, and will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to improve customer reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the migration process of existing SSRS reports to Power BI, ensuring no loss in functionality and making enhancements where necessary.
  • Develop optimized strategies for migrating legacy reports from SSRS to the Power BI Service.
  • Convert SSRS canned and ad hoc reports to Power BI and enhance paginated reports via Power BI visualizations.
  • Develop new Power BI reports and dashboards based on customer requirements, including advanced or predictive analytics.
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of reports and dashboards.
  • Work closely with customers, technicians, developers, and management throughout the project.
  • Develop, implement, and support solutions curated and deployed with Power BI.
  • Connect to various data sources, transform data using Power Query, and create a highly visual experience for end users.
  • Publish reports to the Power BI service, manage distribution of apps, and establish automated refresh schedules.
  • Educate and train business stakeholders on deployed solutions through knowledge base articles, user guides, and live training sessions.
  • Design and conduct training programs to enhance Power BI competency within the team or organization.
  • Formulate and enforce governance policies for Power BI use and deployment.
  • Manage and administer Power BI service, set up security policies, monitor usage and performance, and establish best practices.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership to junior developers and team members.
  • Engage in business stakeholder requirements gathering sessions to document user stories and design effective technical solutions.
  • Execute unit testing, peer testing, and facilitate user acceptance testing.
  • Assist with customer troubleshooting requests or service tickets as required.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain a public trust.
  • Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a STEM-related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in business intelligence and report development.
  • Ability to obtain a certification in Microsoft Power BI (e.g., PL-300) within 90 days of start.
  • Experience working directly with Power BI, Power BI Report Builder, and SSRS.
  • Experience with migration of reports from legacy platforms, particularly SSRS and Business Objects.
  • Direct experience migrating legacy reports to the Power BI Service environment.
  • Experience with DAX, Power Query, and advanced analytics features of Power BI.
  • Experience supporting Power BI Service, including administration.
  • Knowledge about Power BI data gateways and optimizing data flow from on-premises sources to Power BI.
  • Proficiency in using query languages such as SQL.
  • Experience leveraging Power BI for predictive analytics and developing predictive models.
  • Familiarity with Agile methodologies and working in a sprint delivery model.
  • Understanding of database management systems and SQL.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts, ETL processes, and data integration.
  • Knowledge about optimizing gateway performance and scaling out gateways for large datasets.
  • Experience with other aspects of Microsoft's Power Platform and Office 365 suite.
  • Experience with Paginated reports.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate analytical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated excellence in analytical thinking and problem solving.
  • Strong communication skills and experience working closely with customers on requirements and execution.
  • Proven ability to mentor other developers and train end users in Power BI capabilities.
  • Excellence in planning, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to learn new skills and concepts quickly.
  • A track record of following through on commitments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with similar reporting platforms such as Business Objects, Tableau, Cognos, etc.
  • Experience with JIRA, DevOps, or other project tracking tools.
  • Possess the certification in Microsoft Power BI (e.g., PL-300).
  • Previous experience working with government clients.
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as R, Python, JavaScript, etc.
  • Familiarity with other aspects of Microsoft Fabric data platform, such as Synapse.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure OpenAI, and/or AI Builder.
