About the position

The Senior Power Systems Engineer is responsible for leading design initiatives in the electric power industry, focusing on transmission-related and power systems planning projects. This role involves collaboration with various GE Vernova business units and requires a strong understanding of power systems modeling and Grid Code compliance. The engineer will utilize existing databases and modeling tools for power system simulations and must possess excellent technical writing and presentation skills for engaging with global customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical systems design enhancements and/or solutions for the Aeroderivative Gas Turbine Package for multiple Product Lines in a power plant application.
  • Select and evaluate synchronous Generators for Aeroderivative product packages and understand all respective Generator system components.
  • Coordinate with other power plant systems and equipment, including Generator synchronization schemes, protection philosophy, excitation systems, and control.
  • Perform short circuit calculations and load flow studies using engineering tools such as PSLF, PSS/E, ETAP, and MATLAB.
  • Support and develop dynamic IEEE models for gas turbine generator products for benchmarking.
  • Design and size MV/LV Equipment, including GSU, step-up/down transformers, and motor control equipment.
  • Lead design reviews for reliability, performance, safety, and compliance programs for the overall plant and equipment level detail reviews.
  • Read and interpret Single Line Diagrams and develop wiring, loop, instrumentation, and schematic diagrams.
  • Interpret various country/regional grid codes and translate requirements into design solutions through power system simulations.
  • Develop design schedules for projects/programs with milestones and work task assignments with cross-functional teams.
  • Provide support and present technical data to internal stakeholders and external customers.
  • Document and communicate results of technical data generated.
  • Ensure proper documentation of technical data generated for assigned projects consistent with engineering policies and procedures.
  • Prepare invention disclosures to protect competitive technology.
  • Lead extended teams to ensure successful completion of program deliverables.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program or equivalent knowledge/work experience in the Power Systems Sector.
  • Significant experience in power systems, modeling, and simulation studies.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering from an accredited program.
  • Sound knowledge of power generation products and experience with various grid codes and gas turbine generator drive train influences.
