About the position

The Sr. Powerplant Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, airworthiness, and reliability of Atlas Air aircraft. Reporting to the Manager of Powerplant Engineering, this position involves managing engineering data, providing technical support, and overseeing various ATA chapter subjects related to aircraft operations.

Responsibilities

• Project development, management, and implementation for repairs, modifications, or alterations.
• Serve as the technical point of contact for troubleshooting assistance on assigned subject matter.
• Issue instructions and documents to support operations and return aircraft to service safely and timely.
• Review OEM Service Bulletins and regulatory documents for implementation and initiate required engineering documentation.
• Support investigations for safety, regulatory, and reliability matters.
• Monitor fleet performance and initiate corrective actions to maintain fleet health.
• Liaise with manufacturers, maintenance representatives, MRO facilities, regulatory personnel, and other agencies.
• Establish component repair and build specifications to enhance dispatch reliability.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a technical equivalent degree.
• 5+ years of experience in Airline/OEM/MRO environments.
• FAA Airframe and Powerplant license preferred.
• Proficiency in technical analysis and knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations.
• Ability to execute assigned tasks including troubleshooting assistance and vendor communications.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to multi-task.

Nice-to-haves

• Familiarity with aircraft engine systems and components.
• Knowledge of turbofan and turbine engine operation, dynamics, and performance.
• Experience in failure analysis or root cause engineering, including metallurgical analysis.
