About the position

The Senior Preparator at the Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art is a key role responsible for the preparation, installation, and deinstallation of exhibitions and art handling. This position is crucial as the museum prepares for a significant expansion and aims to stage over 20 exhibitions annually, including both loan and permanent collection shows.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and ensure the safe handling and installation of works of art and artifacts for each exhibition, alongside curatorial staff.
  • Prepare objects for display in galleries, including matting and framing of works prior to exhibition.
  • Manage, prepare, and install vinyl didactics and interpretative wall texts/materials.
  • Work collaboratively with the curatorial team on exhibition design, layout, and presentation, including placement of artworks, painting of gallery walls, and lighting of artworks.
  • Coordinate the installation schedule, manage related expenses, and ensure all materials are prepared for each exhibition.

Requirements

  • At least five years' experience in the museum/gallery fields.
  • Strong aesthetic eye and skilled background in handling, hanging, and framing objects.
  • Ability to create materials for display and installation of artworks.
  • Ability to work well both independently and as a team player.
