About the position

As a Senior/Principal Business Intelligence Analyst at Billings Clinic, you will play a crucial role in developing analytics across all business segments of the organization. This position involves gathering specifications, extracting, interpreting, and analyzing data to create reports and data visualizations that deliver actionable insights. The ideal candidate will possess a curious nature and be adaptable to change, as the role requires continuous learning and application of new technologies and methodologies. Your primary responsibilities will include creating actionable data insights that highlight key performance indicators and identify areas of opportunity within current operations. You will engage in data storytelling, effectively designing and communicating data insights through narratives and visualizations. Additionally, you will integrate components of the Microsoft Power Platform to deliver data insights and trigger downstream processes, guiding the adoption and implementation of new analytic tools and practices. Promoting data literacy within the organization is essential, as you will maintain the ability to read, write, and communicate data in context. This includes understanding data sources, analytical methods, and the application of insights to drive value. You will also create presentations for stakeholders and leadership, manage data validation plans, and support self-service BI users in understanding data and tools. The role requires a strong understanding of business workflows to support data initiatives and the ability to convert user requirements into technical specifications for development. In this position, you will be expected to perform other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department and organization, while supporting and modeling behaviors consistent with Billings Clinic's mission, vision, values, and service expectations. You will also need to meet all mandatory organizational and departmental requirements, maintaining competency in all relevant standards related to employee and patient safety.

Responsibilities

  • Creates actionable data insights that highlight key performance indicators and identify areas of opportunity for current operations.
  • Engages in data storytelling by effectively designing and communicating data insights using narratives and visualizations.
  • Integrates components of the Microsoft Power Platform to deliver data insights and trigger downstream processes.
  • Guides the adoption, development, and implementation of new analytic tools, technologies, and practices.
  • Promotes data literacy within the organization by maintaining the ability to read, write, and communicate data in context.
  • Maintains an understanding of business workflows and processes to support data initiatives.
  • Creates presentations for stakeholders and/or leadership to highlight key analysis takeaways.
  • Creates and manages data validation plans to ensure data presented is trusted.
  • Supports self-service BI users in their understanding of data and tools.
  • Provides reporting solutions and responds to ad-hoc report requests from the business unit.
  • Develops and converts user requirements into technical specifications for development.
  • Knowledge of and adherence to agile software development lifecycle.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department and organization.

Requirements

  • B.S or equivalent degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Health Informatics, Healthcare Admin or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years related work experience for Senior Engineer position; 8+ years for Principal Engineer position.
  • Advanced knowledge of data analysis, data modeling, and data storytelling techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of developing data visualizations with BI tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Power Platform including Power BI, Power Automate, and Power Apps.
  • Advanced knowledge of ad-hoc report development.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully collaborate with business leaders to identify opportunities that align analytics services with operational needs.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills, including the ability to see connections between available data and user behavior.
  • Strong experience in Agile project management methodologies and business analysis processes.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of at least one of the following data languages preferred: DAX, M, T-SQL, R, Python.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in statistical forecasting principles preferred.
