About the position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a highly motivated individual to support the manufacturing maturation of ceramic matrix composite (CMC) turbine components. This role focuses on developing and managing processes for ceramic matrix addition through Chemical Vapor Deposition/Infiltration (CVD/I) to enhance the performance of jet engine components, making them more fuel-efficient, lighter, and durable. The position involves collaboration with manufacturing and engineering teams to implement new designs into production, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness while driving innovation in material development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage processes for ceramic matrix addition by Chemical Vapor Deposition/Infiltration (CVD/I).
  • Work closely with manufacturing and engineering integrated teams to implement new designs into production.
  • Drive material development and refinement strategies for Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC).
  • Lead the Integrated Product Team process for CMC turbine components.
  • Provide leadership in eliminating EH&S/Ergonomics/Human Factors risks and addressing quality issues.
  • Create and implement strategies for automation to improve quality and minimize process costs.
  • Identify and implement shop floor process optimization and control methods.
  • Lead the strategy for comprehensive data collection and analysis to support robust process development.
  • Establish metrics for the process including yield, cost, cycle time, capacity, safety, and delivery.
  • Monitor outcomes to identify and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Lead the advancement of Manufacturing Readiness Level (MRL) and support hardware production for Technology Readiness Level (TRL) demonstration.
  • Conduct root cause investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Train engineers and technicians on processes and improvements.
  • Monitor and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) practices.
  • Identify, investigate, and implement new technology to address business goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or Material Science and 10+ years of relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field and 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • US Citizenship is required as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in Chemical, Materials Science, or Composites Engineering discipline.
  • Experience developing new processes and successful transition to production.
  • Experience making, testing, or analyzing Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs).
  • Extensive experience with Chemical Vapor Deposition/Infiltration (CVD/I) and melt infiltration (MI) processes.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships and exercise influence.
  • Ability to lead small teams to deliver outstanding results.
