About the position

The Senior Cloud Engineer (SCE) at Honda is responsible for leading IT automation efforts to enhance the performance, availability, and efficiency of infrastructure, applications, and services. This pivotal role focuses on platform and application automation, ensuring that new features and services meet reliability and performance goals. The SCE will build and deliver Platform Engineering and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) foundations, coach teams on best practices, and collaborate with various stakeholders to improve operational efficiencies.

Responsibilities

• Lead IT automation efforts to improve outcomes and operations.
• Ensure availability, latency, performance, efficiency, change management, monitoring, emergency response, and capacity planning for applications and infrastructure.
• Build and implement application automation via Platform Engineering/SRE foundations.
• Coach and apply platform and application automation assets to business use cases.
• Define standard topologies, environment architectures, and automation for the service lifecycle.
• Work closely with development teams to ensure reliability and performance goals are met.
• Document and disseminate knowledge and best practices for Cloud Platform Engineering/SRE.
• Collaborate with teams to define SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs and track key metrics.
• Consult with external cloud providers to evaluate and recommend emerging technologies.

Requirements

• A BS-level degree in Computer Science, Electronics/Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent industry experience.
• 12 or more years of relevant experience working on Cloud Platforms with a focus on Platform Engineering/SRE.
• Hands-on experience in IT Infrastructure and Applications management for mid-large size customer environments in the Cloud.
• Experience in Cloud services related to build, provision, and deployment.
• Experience in OpenShift or Kubernetes container platforms.
• Good knowledge of development languages and Automation Development Life Cycle.
• Hands-on experience in configuration management IaC Cloud tools (Terraform, Chef, Puppet, Ansible).
• Knowledge of Observability solutions like AWS CloudWatch, Azure Cloud Monitor, and third-party solutions like Prometheus, Dynatrace, AppDynamics, Datadog.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in consulting and coaching is a plus.
• Good knowledge of Agile and Lean Methodology.
• Good working knowledge in ITIL processes enabled operations.
