About the position

Atlassian is seeking a Principal Data Scientist to join the People Insights team, which consists of analysts, data scientists, behavioral scientists, researchers, and business partners. This role focuses on leveraging data and research to address strategic and operational challenges faced by the organization. The Principal Data Scientist will collaborate with various stakeholders to translate their needs into actionable insights and recommendations, ultimately driving decision-making within the company.

Responsibilities

• Understand the needs of business stakeholders and translate them into analytical and research projects.
• Deliver science-backed insights and recommendations to drive action.
• Collaborate with behavioral scientists and data scientists to provide scalable and actionable insights.
• Act as a subject matter expert on high-priority projects tied to company objectives.
• Present complex analyses and insights in a clear and relevant manner to stakeholders.
• Mentor other team members and learn from fellow Data Scientists.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Data Science or related fields.
• Proficiency in SQL and another data manipulation programming language (e.g., Python, R).
• Expertise in storytelling with data and familiarity with at least one visualization tool (e.g., Tableau, R-Shiny, Looker).
• 5+ years of experience working with people data in an applied setting.
• Proven ability to translate data into compelling insights and narratives for a non-technical audience.
• Experience driving impactful projects or programs through analytics skills.
• Strong writing skills for crafting analysis into persuasive content.
• Experience advising and presenting to senior executives.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with advanced statistical methods (e.g., regression, cluster analysis, text analysis).
• Understanding of the SaaS business model and key metrics.
