About the position

The Senior Principal Electrical Designer at Worley is responsible for providing electrical design and drafting services, ensuring compliance with client and industry standards. This role involves supervising project execution activities, preparing discipline-specific deliverables, and overseeing junior designers. The position requires extensive experience in electrical design and proficiency in various design software, contributing to the development of detailed drawings and layouts for electrical installations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide discipline team supervision by directing project execution activities and preparing discipline-specific deliverables for one large or several smaller projects.
  • Work within a team environment with minimal supervision, adhering to Client, Company, and Industry standards.
  • Perform moderately to difficult drafting assignments requiring knowledge of established drafting techniques, standards, practices, and software.
  • Oversee the preparation of design and detail drawings from sketches, plans, or other design/specification data.
  • Take responsibility for the design and drafting of HV and LV electrical installations.
  • Direct the work of junior designers and coordinate work sharing activities to ensure compliance with client requirements and project specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews with clients and advise on technical design and drafting issues and compliance requirements.
  • Perform point-to-point reviews on complete electrical design packages.
  • Complete work scope within time and budget constraints.
  • Develop layouts, plans, sections, elevations, and details for facilities and equipment from reference drawings or catalogues, making routine calculations.
  • Perform dimensional and routine calculations required for the preparation of drawings and file electrical discipline documents.
  • Travel to job sites to perform panel audits and walkdown raceway routing.
  • Work within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system relevant to the project.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in electrical design.
  • Experience with Smartplant Electrical (SPEL) and Smartplant Instrumentation (SPI), AutoCAD, and MicroStation design software packages; AVEVA E3D is a plus.
  • Specialization in detailed drawings for lighting, small power and earthing systems, HV/LV single line diagrams, wiring and control schematic diagrams, AC/DC distribution panels, process area electrical equipment layouts, substation and switchyard layouts, cable tray layouts, ductbank sizing, and grounding plans.
  • A Degree or 2-3 year technical diploma with discipline-specific training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience in electrical design and drafting.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Smart Plant 3D and participation in 3D model reviews.
  • Lighting calculations using software AGI32.
