About the position

The Senior Principal Electrical Engineer (Electrical Design and Integration) at Northrop Grumman is responsible for providing electrical design integration support for cable systems and harness design within the Vehicle Integration organization. This role involves developing electrical roadmaps, system schematics, and collaborating with other engineers to ensure the integration of various subsystems into aircraft designs. The position requires a strong background in electrical engineering, particularly in wire harness and RF cable design, and offers opportunities to work on innovative projects that impact aviation technology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical roadmaps, system schematics, wiring diagrams, parts wire list, and notes lists for cable assembly build to print definition utilizing Mentor Capital.
  • Work closely with mechanical design integration electrical routers to establish physical design characteristics such as wire length.
  • Design and analyze wire harness and RF cable assemblies.
  • Contribute to the creation of technical presentations for internal and customer teams.
  • Develop cable drawings.
  • Collaborate with other subsystem engineers to integrate all systems into the required platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field and 8 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 6 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in STEM with 3 years of related engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with wire harness and RF cable design.
  • Fundamental understanding of wire gauge sizing and voltage drop analysis.
  • Understanding of basic data signal types (MIL-STD-1553, RS-422, CAN, etc.).
  • Basic circuit design analysis and electrical system sizing/protection as well as various wire shielding requirements.
  • Experience with military aircraft avionics subsystems.
  • A current active in-scope DoD Secret security clearance or higher, with the ability to obtain Special Program Access (SAP).

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience with Mentor Capital application.
  • Prior experience in leading a team of engineers.
  • Proficiency in design tools such as Microsoft Visio, RapidHarness, NX, AutoCAD, CATIA.
  • Prior experience in coordinating with multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) within a dynamic program environment.
  • Experience with suppliers and supplier coordination.
