About the position

Collins Aerospace, an RTX company, is seeking a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join the Precision Navigation (PNav) Hardware department, specifically within the Air Traffic Navigation, Integration and Coordination System (ATNAVICS) Mechanical and RF section. This role is critical in supporting various contracts related to the ATNAVICS program, which includes sustainment for the US military and production for international contracts. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in RF and Digital Circuit Card Assembly (CCA) design, development, integration, and testing. They will be responsible for engaging with suppliers during builds, resolving obsolescence issues, and debugging electrical problems in the lab. The position requires a proactive approach to support all contracts on the ATNAVICS program, ensuring that all engineering tasks are completed efficiently and effectively. In this role, the Senior Principal Electrical Engineer will perform minor CCA redesigns and associated Design Verification Testing (DVT). They will troubleshoot and repair equipment in the lab to support field Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) returns and identify replacements for obsolete components as part of the quarterly obsolescence report. The engineer will also document necessary changes to existing ATNAVICS documentation and support suppliers during the build process to resolve any issues that arise. Additionally, they will assist manufacturing teams in troubleshooting electrical or RF issues encountered during refurbishments or production. The role may also involve supporting other Collins business areas as needs arise, with travel to Largo, FL, expected to be up to 10%.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor CCA redesigns and associated DVT testing
  • Troubleshoot and repair equipment in the lab to support field LRU returns
  • Identify form, fit, function replacements for obsolete components to support the quarterly obsolescence report
  • Document redlines to existing ATNAVICS documentation
  • Support suppliers during the build process to help resolve any issues
  • Assist manufacturing in troubleshooting electrical or RF issues found during refurbishments or production
  • Potentially support other Collins business areas as needs arise
  • Engage in up to 10% travel to Largo, FL as required

Requirements

  • Extensive knowledge of microwave and digital circuit design
  • Experience with Electrical Engineering design tools for circuit and electromagnetic simulation (Keysight ADS, CST, or equivalent)
  • Experience in a lab environment operating RF and standard test equipment including spectrum and network analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, etc.
  • Ability to perform and report Earned Value Management System (EVMS) data
  • Experience leading a team of multiple engineers
  • Willingness to support efforts that require domestic travel and potential international travel
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 14 years of relevant experience
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

Nice-to-haves

  • Understanding of radar system theory
  • Experience with Printed Wiring Board (PWB) manufacturing
  • Experience with schematic capture and board layout tools
  • Experience with taking a design concept from the block diagram or requirements level and developing a complete hardware design, and then verifying the design via test and integration
