As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you will be at the forefront of creating energy solutions that support therapies from patient monitoring to advanced surgical technologies. Your contributions will directly impact the lives of patients by ensuring that the medical devices they rely on are powered efficiently and safely. In this role, you will engage in a variety of responsibilities that include researching, developing, designing, and testing electrical components and systems. You will model and design electrical test equipment and write comprehensive test plans and reports for medical battery packs. Your expertise will be essential in generating, debugging, and troubleshooting complex algorithms for battery management systems, as well as integrating and documenting real-time algorithms. You will also perform root cause analysis on failed components and design test methods to ensure safety and reliability, adhering to global regulatory standards. Working under minimal supervision, you will be expected to maintain a high level of quality in your work, following all relevant quality policies and procedures. Responsibilities

  • Research, develop, design, and test electrical components, battery packs, and battery management systems.
  • Model and design electrical test equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for various purposes.
  • Write medical battery pack test plans and reports.
  • Compile code for embedded controllers such as PIC, uART, and other microprocessors.
  • Generate, debug, and troubleshoot complex battery management system algorithms.
  • Integrate, test, and document real-time algorithms.
  • Perform root cause analysis of failed components.
  • Design and execute test methods to characterize safety, ensure reliability, and verify adherence to standards, product, and systems requirements.
  • Interface with certifying body test houses to verify/certify to global regulatory standards including UN38.3, IEC-60601, IEC-62133-2, UL2054, UL1642.
  • Ensure understanding of all quality policy/system items that are personally applicable and follow all work/quality procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience, or advanced degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong background in design of battery packs and battery management systems for medical devices.

Nice-to-haves

  • BS in Electrical Engineering strongly preferred.
  • Design experience with Altium, Simulink, and Simscape Battery and BMS modeling.
  • Fundamental understanding of cell balancing within a pack.
  • Familiarity with battery test systems - Chroma, MACCOR, Arbin.
  • Fluency with commercial off-the-shelf Impedance Track and M5 fuel gauging.
