About the position

The Senior Principal Engineer for Command and Data Handling Systems at BAE Systems is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the Command and Data Handling (CDH) subsystem for spacecraft. This role involves defining requirements, developing architecture, and ensuring the subsystem meets technical, cost, and schedule requirements. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams and strong technical expertise in hardware and subsystem design.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Command and Data Handling subsystem lead on Civil Space and National Defense bus programs.
  • Work daily with the larger CDH team on technical definition, implementation, and verification.
  • Establish strong working relationships within the CDH team and with system engineering, integration and test teams, and peers from other spacecraft subsystems.
  • Support the definition and maintenance of the subsystem architecture and interfaces.
  • Generate verification and validation plans, and collaborate with the Integration and Test team to ensure the subsystem meets requirements.
  • Conduct technical writing for procedural definitions, specifications, interfaces, and analysis support documents.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations to peers, customers, and management.
  • Maintain a regular and predictable work schedule.
  • Interact appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment.

Requirements

  • BS degree or higher in Engineering or a related technical field is required plus 8 or more years related experience.
  • A current, active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electronics or avionics subsystem design or test, or a related field.
  • Understanding of requirements definition, decomposition, and flow-down, circuit design, interface definition, hardware specifications, interface control, analyses, and verification.
  • Experience developing and delivering space qualified hardware.
  • Intellectual curiosity combined with a strong desire to learn.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Effective in a multidisciplinary teamwork environment.
