About the position

The Machine Learning Engineer will lead and manage Vertex's Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence Platform, focusing on developing and maintaining the infrastructure and tools necessary for deploying, monitoring, and continuously improving machine learning models. This role involves collaboration with data scientists and software engineers to enhance the Vertex Data Platform, ensuring a seamless experience for users leveraging ML/AI models. The position is critical in supporting Vertex's mission to drive innovation and insights through advanced data science capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, maintain, and improve Vertex's ML platform with a focus on security and DevOps.
  • Develop, deploy, and maintain Vertex Data Platform components for advanced ML and AI solutions.
  • Estimate, architect, and execute delivery of critical projects in partnership with the DSE leadership team.
  • Manage a team of MLOps & Data Engineers to maintain the Vertex Data Platform.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to model deployment, execution, and performance.
  • Advocate for process enhancements to improve ML & Data Science capabilities.
  • Collaborate with data scientists and data engineers to integrate best practices into the development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of experience as a Software Engineer, DevOps Engineer, MLOps Engineer, or Machine Learning Engineer in a production ecosystem.
  • 3+ years in an MLOps or ML Engineering role using Databricks, AWS, or equivalent cloud platforms.
  • Experience with model pipeline technologies like Astronomer / Airflow, MLFlow, etc.
  • Experience developing ML/AI solutions using Python libraries such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, XGBoost, etc.
  • Experience in monitoring and optimizing the security and performance of deployed models.
  • Experience automating model training, validation, and deployment processes.
  • 5+ years working in agile environments.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple collaborative projects.
  • Strong presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with JIRA and Confluence for workflow management.
  • Enthusiasm for learning new technologies and solving complex problems.
