About the position

As a Senior Principal Engineer of Mechanical Systems at GE Vernova, you will play a pivotal role in driving the technical strategy and research initiatives that support the energy transition. This position involves collaboration with various teams to develop next-generation products and technologies, focusing on mechanical design, advanced manufacturing, and strategic partnerships with government and academic institutions. You will lead multidisciplinary teams, manage complex projects, and communicate technology strategies to senior executives, all while ensuring alignment with GE Vernova's mission to electrify and decarbonize energy systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical leadership to develop differentiating mechanical design, structural, and advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Drive technical leadership and excellence for the resolution of design, mechanics, and advanced manufacturing challenges across multiple GE Vernova businesses.
  • Shape and grow internal and external program pipeline in partnership with GE Vernova businesses and government agencies.
  • Develop partnerships with universities, small businesses, and national laboratories to expand capabilities.
  • Drive next generation critical design, mechanics, and advanced manufacturing programs.
  • Provide technical leadership, consultation, and mentoring in project shaping, management, and execution.
  • Manage design and manufacturing research work at GE Vernova Advanced Research.
  • Communicate technology strategies to Senior VP and CEO level executives and external stakeholders.
  • Define and navigate program risks to achieve business outcomes.
  • Build relationships with the US Department of Energy to shape future opportunities.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 13 years of relevant experience OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field with a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience leading teams or large projects.
  • Demonstrated deep domain knowledge in design, mechanics, and advanced manufacturing.
  • Demonstrated breadth of expertise across multiple technical domains and ability to strategize at a system level.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience leading large government research programs and writing successful R&D proposals.
  • Experience leading large, multi-disciplinary research teams and reporting to Senior VP and CEO leadership levels.
  • Willingness to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY.
