About the position

The Senior Principal Engineer - Solid Propulsion at Raytheon is responsible for leading the design, development, and demonstration of solid propulsion systems, including warhead and rocket motor technologies. This role involves managing projects from concept to missile flight tests, ensuring alignment with program goals, and collaborating with suppliers and internal teams to integrate advanced technologies into missile systems. The position requires a strong technical background in propulsion technology and the ability to communicate effectively with leadership and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the overall propulsion design, development, and demonstration from concept to missile flight test.
  • Manage cost and schedule responsibilities for suppliers within the Propulsion IPT.
  • Communicate program status, accomplishments, issues, and help needed to RMD leadership.
  • Support proposal efforts with major suppliers and define future contract scope and schedule.
  • Apply or develop advanced technologies for systems integration of propulsion and related systems.
  • Review manufacturing processes and resolve problems with subcontractors on solid rocket motor propulsion systems.
  • Manage propulsion system development projects and oversee supplier operations.
  • Develop and deliver technical presentations to management and government agencies.
  • Interface with customers to identify user needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) or related degree.
  • Ten years of experience in propulsion technology or seven years with an advanced degree and related experience.
  • Experience managing a team of 3 or more in a technical capacity.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • MS in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Math, or related science degree.
  • Twelve plus years of directly related experience in propulsive technology and its application to solid or liquid propulsion systems.
  • Systems knowledge to assure full development of propulsion requirements.
  • Project engineering skills and experience using Earned Value Management System.
  • Demonstrated success as a proposal/cost account manager and project/team leader.
  • Willingness to travel, including international, to provide supplier support.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret Clearance (Department of Defense).
