About the position

The Senior Principal Hardware Development Engineer will play a crucial role in validating hardware platforms for current and next-generation products at Fortinet. This position involves working closely with a team of engineers to enhance product quality and implement new features, while also participating in various phases of the hardware development cycle. The role requires a strong background in validation test engineering and offers opportunities to work with complex technologies in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Validate hardware platforms for current and next-generation products.
  • Evolve existing architecture and improve product quality.
  • Work with cross-functional teams and external partners to drive resolution.
  • Participate in design reviews and support validation of hardware/software designs.
  • Design and develop hardware test cases and create test plans.
  • Implement, automate, and execute test cases.
  • Support debugging of failed development and production issues.
  • Prepare reports and documents to support test results.
  • Identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Contribute to improving yield during development and production phases.
  • Evaluate and qualify components with the development team.
  • Participate in system and chip bring-up tasks when necessary.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of validation test engineering experience.
  • Prior hardware design exposure or experience is preferred.
  • Expertise with 10Gb, 40Gb, 100Gb, or higher speed Ethernet switches.
  • Experience with x86 and embedded processor architecture, development, and system-level debug.
  • Familiarity with standard interfaces such as SATA, PCIe, DDR, USB, I2C, Optical/Copper modules.
  • Familiarity with traffic generators, logic analyzers, bus analyzers, multi-meters, waveform generators, and digital scopes.
  • Working knowledge with test centers like Ixia, Spirent, and BreakingPoint.
  • Ability to write scripts in Python, Shell, or TCL.
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems.
  • Understanding of operating temperature and HALT chambers.
  • Knowledge of EDVT & system/device characterization.
