About the position

The Senior Principal IT/Database/Software Engineer at General Dynamics Mission Systems is responsible for providing system architecture services to guide the design and implementation of analytic capabilities and platforms. This role involves troubleshooting performance issues, supporting application developers, and leading complex technical projects while ensuring compliance with security clearance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide system architecture and hardware recommendations to System Administrators and Management.
  • Troubleshoot performance issues and debug application failures.
  • Support Applications Developers in the creation and deployment of new applications.
  • Maintain LAN, including account administration and software patching.
  • Perform software requirements analysis and system integration activities.
  • Lead research, design, development, and testing of software and tools.
  • Conduct technical planning, verification, and validation of work.
  • Perform analysis for all levels of total system product including concept, design, and maintenance.
  • Apply principles of computer science and engineering to develop complex solutions.
  • Ensure conversion of customer requirements into total systems solutions.
  • Research and analyze data to determine feasibility of designs or applications.
  • Champion appropriate standards and processes throughout the system development life cycle.
  • Participate as a Subject Matter Expert in internal reviews of software components.
  • Define the scope, schedule, and expectations for work executed or led.
  • Lead and manage the completion of major programs and projects.
  • Identify and lead execution of risk mitigation strategies.
  • Provide leadership and direction to lower-level employees and teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or related field.
  • 10+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 8 years of experience.
  • TS/SCI with Polygraph security clearance required at time of hire.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of software engineering concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Integrated Development Environments (IDE) and version control systems.
  • Familiarity with software development processes and methodologies.
  • Ability to handle significant responsibility and leadership.
