About the position

The Senior Principal Micro Metrology & Chemical Cleaning Engineer at FormFactor, Inc. is responsible for leading edge laser drilled micro hole measurement and associated chemical cleaning processes on ceramic substrates. This role involves equipment management, product process development, and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance manufacturing efficiency and throughput. The engineer will leverage their technical expertise to address challenges in chemical cleaning and metrology processes, ensuring alignment with industry requirements for advanced semiconductor applications.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with existing process owners to learn and take ownership of substrate chemical debond/cleaning and micro hole metrology processes.
  • Explore opportunities to improve chemical cleaning processes and reduce retest time associated with contamination or measurement impactors.
  • Identify improvements in chemical debond processes to ensure capacity, capability, and safety.
  • Enhance optical micro metrology systems and reduce measurement and retest cycle times.
  • Establish quality controls, yield tracking, and process KPIs to support corrective actions in laser drilling processes.
  • Own process documentation and training for production and engineering technicians.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering by prioritizing and acting on improvement opportunities.
  • Submit IT tasks and collaborate with web app developers to enhance factory MES system interfaces.
  • Develop solutions to meet chemical debond, cleaning, and measurement requirements for new laser drilling processes.
  • Project manage fleet expansion and coordinate with equipment vendors for support and upgrades.
  • Drive maintenance and CIP of process equipment based on KPIs.
  • Collaborate with product development and production teams to communicate status and recovery plans during issue resolution.
  • Systematize methods to track and troubleshoot production issues, perform failure analysis, and drive long-term resolutions.
  • Collaborate with upstream and downstream process owners for root cause analysis and process improvement.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical or Material Science engineering + 5-7 years of equivalent experience in Semiconductor or equivalent technology equipment engineering.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills related to manufacturing issues.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and a methodical approach to solving technical problems.
  • 2+ years of progressive experience as Manufacturing Process Engineer, Quality or Metrology Engineer, or related experience.
  • Experience in Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments; quality and continuous improvement methodologies such as FMEA, RCA, and Lean Manufacturing.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment and understand Safety Data Sheets.
  • Familiarity with mechanical machined parts and CAD component & assembly drawings.
  • Solid computer skills on various Windows versions and equipment interfaces.
  • Software experience with MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point; Excel Macros, AutoCAD, JMP or other large data analysis tools.
  • Ability to use hand tools and chemical maintenance measurement equipment.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written in English.
  • Familiarity with clean room procedures and protocols.
