About the position

As a Senior Principal Network Engineer at Raytheon Digital Technology, you will play a critical role in the Classified Infrastructure Services department, which is dedicated to providing expertise in Networking, High Performance Computing, and Storage & Data Protection. This position is based in Portsmouth, RI, and requires an active US Secret Clearance. Your primary responsibility will be to serve as a Subject Matter Expert in networking, leveraging your advanced knowledge and troubleshooting skills to support operational teams effectively. You will be tasked with researching new technologies, collaborating with various organizations, and driving the network roadmap and vision to ensure that our systems remain robust and secure. In this high-impact role, you will provide advanced knowledge in support of LAN/WAN components, including routers, switches, and firewalls from leading manufacturers such as Cisco and Palo Alto. You will monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize network system performance, proactively identifying and resolving service-impacting issues. Additionally, you will review system vulnerability assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices, and you will participate in projects aimed at improving voice, video, and network infrastructure. Your responsibilities will also include producing and updating technical documentation to support security requirements and operational needs, proposing and configuring network solutions that meet communication requirements, and providing regular monitoring and analysis for short- and long-range planning of network infrastructure. You will assist in coordinating third-party maintenance and procurement for network equipment and support the performance and capability of technical teams through mentoring and knowledge sharing. This position may require occasional travel to other local and U.S. domestic locations, approximately 30% of the time, and you should be willing to work outside normal business hours as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced knowledge in support of LAN/WAN components including routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco/Palo Alto).
  • Monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize network system performance, proactively identifying and quickly resolving service impacting issues.
  • Review system vulnerability assessments to ensure compliance with recognized industry standards and best practices.
  • Drive and/or participate in projects in support of installation and/or improvement to voice, video, and network infrastructure.
  • Produce, update, and generally improve technical documentation to support security requirements and operational support of systems.
  • Propose to management and configure network solutions, meeting all communications requirements based on future needs, current usage, cost savings, and availability.
  • Provide regular monitoring and network analysis regarding short- and long-range planning for network infrastructure.
  • Assist with coordination of third-party maintenance and procurement for network equipment or with vendors for third-party support.
  • Assist in the overall performance and capability of technical teams through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.
  • Willingness and availability to work outside normal business hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.
  • Willingness and availability to travel to local and other U.S domestic sites approximately 30% of time.

Requirements

  • Active US Secret Clearance required.
  • Advanced knowledge of LAN/WAN components including routers, switches, and firewalls (Cisco/Palo Alto).
  • Experience in monitoring, analyzing, troubleshooting, and optimizing network system performance.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and best practices for system vulnerability assessments.
  • Experience in project management related to voice, video, and network infrastructure installation and improvement.
  • Ability to produce and update technical documentation for security and operational support.
  • Skills in proposing and configuring network solutions based on various requirements.
  • Experience in network infrastructure planning and analysis.
