About the position

As a Senior Principal Network Engineer at Raytheon, you will play a critical role in the Classified Infrastructure Services department, which is dedicated to providing expertise in Networking, High Performance Computing, and Storage & Data Protection. This position requires an active US Top Secret clearance and is based in Tewksbury, MA. You will be responsible for delivering Subject Matter Expertise in networking, supporting operational teams with your advanced knowledge and troubleshooting skills. Your role will involve researching new technologies, collaborating with various organizations, and helping to shape the network roadmap and vision for the future. In this high-impact position, you will provide advanced knowledge in support of LAN/WAN components, including routers, switches, and firewalls from leading vendors such as Cisco and Palo Alto. You will monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize network system performance, proactively identifying and resolving service-impacting issues. Additionally, you will review system vulnerability assessments to ensure compliance with industry standards and best practices, and you will drive projects aimed at improving voice, video, and network infrastructure. Your responsibilities will also include producing and updating technical documentation to support security requirements and operational needs, proposing network solutions to management, and providing regular monitoring and analysis for short- and long-range planning of network infrastructure. You will assist in coordinating third-party maintenance and procurement for network equipment and contribute to the performance and capability of technical teams through mentoring and training. This position requires a willingness to work outside normal business hours and travel approximately 30% of the time to local and other U.S. domestic sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced knowledge in support of LAN/WAN components including routers, switches, and firewalls.
  • Monitor, analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize network system performance, proactively identifying and resolving service impacting issues.
  • Review system vulnerability assessments to ensure compliance with recognized industry standards and best practices.
  • Drive and/or participate in projects in support of installation and/or improvement to voice, video, and network infrastructure.
  • Produce, update, and improve technical documentation to support security requirements and operational support of systems.
  • Propose and configure network solutions based on future needs, current usage, cost savings, and availability.
  • Provide regular monitoring and network analysis for short- and long-range planning of network infrastructure.
  • Assist with coordination of third-party maintenance and procurement for network equipment or with vendors for third-party support.
  • Assist in the overall performance and capability of technical teams through mentoring, training, and knowledge sharing.
  • Willingness to work outside normal business hours and travel approximately 30% of the time.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree and 8 years in Network Engineering or Information Technology roles, or an advanced degree and 6 years' experience, or 12 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued US Top Secret DOD security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced knowledge of configuration and troubleshooting of routers, switches, firewalls, and authentication servers.
  • Experience with platforms such as Cisco ISE, Cisco Call Manager, NTP servers, General Dynamics GemOne, and SolarWinds.
  • Experience configuring, updating, and troubleshooting encryption devices and intrusion detection systems.
  • Experience with classified computing, NIST and other Security doctrine, STIG compliance, and network refreshes.
  • Experience with project management, team leadership, and personnel development.
  • Ability to solve complex problems with limited supervision.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office technologies including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Visio.
  • Certifications in Security+ within 6 months and Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) level certification within a year.
  • Working knowledge of network security and infrastructure best practices.
  • Effective customer service skills, including oral and written communication.
