About the position

This role is responsible for operational risk oversight activities specific to a respective business line or corporate function at Discover. The position involves advising, assessing, and effectively challenging operational risks and mitigations, ensuring alignment with the business's risk appetite and objectives. The individual will collaborate with various teams to establish an effective second line of defense operational risk organization, monitor and test risk management practices, and engage with business partners at all levels to drive a culture of effective risk management.

Responsibilities

• Provide support, coaching, development opportunities, and feedback to other team members.
• Define and execute the risk-based approach to independent risk assessments and oversight for the business.
• Define the monitoring and testing strategy to ensure effective oversight of the business.
• Execute operational risk advisory and effective challenge for programs across the Non-Financial Risk Programs.
• Participate in governance and management committee forums to drive a culture of effective risk management.
• Create and update status reports of program initiatives, activities, and non-financial risks to management and committees.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and Management or related field.
• 8+ years of experience in Law, Operational Risk Oversight, Compliance, or Operations.
• 5+ years of experience in a first- or second-line risk, control, or compliance role in a highly regulated financial institution.
• In lieu of education, 12+ years of risk management experience in a highly regulated financial/depository environment with a focus on operational risk management.

Nice-to-haves

• 10+ years of risk management experience in a financial environment with a focus on operational risk management or internal audit.
